ImageThe Philippine Human Rights Reporting Training held its 4th training on reporting extrajudicial killings in Ozamiz City on January 25.

The training gathered a total of 26 journalists coming from radio, television, print and online media outlets.

The journalists discussed concepts and definition of EJK; difference between EJK by State actors and that of non-State actors; and types of cases filed against persons or groups who are suspected of committing EJK.

ImageThe journalists also discussed where these cases could be filed, such as military tribunals if cases involve the military as perpetrators and the Commission on Human Rights.

The journalists underwent workshops to identify factors that help or hinder coverage of EJK stories; proper sourcing and follow up for EJK stories; and practical safety and ethical tips while on field.
